Create a Bluehost account.
Begin by entering your account information, such as your name, e-mail address (it is critical to have an up-to-date e-mail address because this is where your login details and account information will be received), and address. If you don’t want to enter your data manually, you can link your Bluehost account to your Google account. Either way, it works!
Choose the best hosting package.
This is where you’ll select an account plan based on the price you want to lock in and how much you’ll pay in advance.
Please remember that Bluehost only allows you to pay for one, two, three, or five years in advance. They do not accept monthly payments (because most hosting companies that offer monthly payments tend to charge a bit more). Once you’ve installed your WordPress theme, you’ll want to update your website’s default URL to include a “www” before your domain name.
This will take you from https://yourblogname.com to https://www.yourblogname.com, which has a more attractive URL.
By heading to Settings > General, you can easily modify this.

Creating your blog’s primary pages (about, contact, hire)
At the beginning of your blog, you should give some basic information about yourself. You are who you are. Why should people listen to you? People can contact you if they have queries or want to collaborate with you.
These pages are all relatively traditional, but they’re also a terrific opportunity to have fun and get to know your readers.

Writing about oneself is difficult. So let’s start with some fundamental issues that any great blog’s About page should address:
1. What value do you provide to your readers?
Your About page is not the place where you can just talk about yourself. It’s okay to talk about yourself on your About page, but it’s more important to focus on your readers and the value you’re bringing to their lives. Your audience, the value you provide, and the reason you started a blog should all be apparent to you at the outset.
My site, for example, is all about assisting individuals in growing their blogs today, discovering the most significant business ideas, and creating successful side enterprises. On the top of my About page, I write, “I am a writer.” Using this signifies to readers that they have arrived at the right place.
2. For whom is your blog intended?

- What kind of blog entries do you write: “If you enjoy X, Y, and Z, you’ll feel right at home here.”
- What they will get from your posts: “I share all I’ve learned developing a 6-figure consulting firm from scratch.”
- They could begin with, “If you’re new here, check out my Ultimate Guide to X.”
- “I’m a regular writer to Fast Company, Business Insider, and Inc. Magazine…” explains why you and your blog have credibility.
- “Back in 2003, during an unusually harsh Colorado winter, I fell in love with snowshoeing…”Don’t be frightened to come close. People are more moved by tales and vulnerabilities than by neatly constructed writing. Readers will return because they want to hear your voice.
For my niche, I know my viewers are looking for personalized, practical advice on how to launch a side company.
4. Where do you want your readers to go next?
Most visitors ignore the final (and most likely most important) portion of your About page. Give your readers suggestions for what they should do next! Do you want them to check out your most recent blog post? Want to get your newsletter? Have you ever used Twitter? Why should you give up on someone who has reached the bottom of your page?
I realize that if someone has made it to my blog’s About page, they have probably just met me. I don’t want to ask for anything too demanding, such as signing up for a newsletter or following me on social media. I’d instead get to know me better so they can do it independently. That’s why my CTA is to just read my greatest stuff.
Use your about page to demonstrate the value you provide to your readers—and work hard to gain their attention.

It’s not enough to include a contact form on your blog’s Contact page. Consider the reasons why someone would want to contact you. Can you address simple inquiries on your contact page with a FAQ?
When creating your contact page, consider your objective as a blogger. People that read my blog may wish to employ me to help them with their own content marketing. - What is an exciting childhood passion or aspiration of yours?
- What was the highlight of your day?
- Is there anything you’d like to try in the near future?
- What is one of your most deeply held values?
- What is one of the accomplishments that you are most proud of?
You should have a couple ideas for a specific niche you can blog about right away. It’s OK if your specialization expands, evolves, and shifts over time.
Going a step further, how can you tell if your blog niche has a business opportunity?
Think if your blog’s niche is something that people want to read about before you begin making money from it. This signifies that people are actively looking for what you’re writing about. And can you add value and assist them in a way that allows you to profit?
Take the blog theme you’re considering and brainstorm 5–10 keyword phrases or topics inside that niche that you’d like to write about.
So, for example, if we decided to create a blog on playing guitar, we might include keywords such as, “best guitar books,” “how to play guitar,” “beginning guitar chords,” “what guitar should I get,” and so on.
Doing some keyword research is the next logical step. Go to Google and type in one of the keywords listed above. You may be confident that your subject is popular if your search returns tens of millions (or more) of results.
To be safe, I examine the monthly search volume using a application called UbberSuggest (how many people are searching for this term each month).
Examine the results for each of your keywords. Search volume around 5,000 and 10,000 is an indicator that you’ve located an attractive market.
If you’re far over that, in the hundreds of thousands of Monthly Searches, you might want to narrow your focus rather than competing with much larger, established websites on more popular themes.
I’m coming up with clever blog post ideas (using keyword research)
Even after you’ve determined the niche in which you’ll be blogging, you must conduct thorough keyword research to generate the right blog post ideas that will bring you readers.
So, what about the actual posts you’ll be writing? The good news is that you have complete freedom to write whatever you wish!
After all, this is your blog, and one of its fundamental benefits is that it provides a forum for you to talk and debate. However, ideas do not always come easily.
This is where I think a simple editing calendar comes in handy. It’s only a simple form to fill out that will provide you with a road map for always knowing what you will write next.
Rather of bashing your head against the wall in an effort to come up with blog post ideas, you can spend more time actually creating content.
5 methods for coming up with clever blog post ideas
Here’s a fundamental approach to generating customized blog entries for my site.

- Consider and write down the following topics: Begin by writing down as many ideas or keywords as possible. Choose goods that you know your target audience would enjoy. What are their questions? What areas of expertise do you have that can help fill up the gaps?
- Use a keyword research tool to get even more ideas: Use a keyword research tool like Ubersuggest(seen above), Twinword Suggestions (free), or Moz to get more ideas. These tools will show you relevant keywords and themes to the ones you’ve previously developed and how much traffic such terms receive (to show that your audience cares about them)
- Combine similar ideas: Take all of your words and start editing them. Is it possible to merge any duplicates?
- Make a spreadsheet and prioritize your ideas: Return to your editorial calendar spreadsheet and fill in the blanks with your word, projected search volume, difficulty, and opportunity. On a ranking of 1 to 5, assign a priority to each of these issues. (Or a standard High-Medium-Low).
- Create an outline that meets all three important needs: Set deadlines for your top priorities. Look for themes that address all three of your basic needs: Fits your niche, fits your readers’ genuine needs, and can enhance search engine traffic to your site. To begin, write a blog post plan to highlight your main ideas.

You don’t blog for the sole purpose of crafting enticing headlines that entice readers to read on, do you? Spending small time on understanding how to craft an intriguing headline that also delivers on the promise of your piece’s content can generate profit.
Learn to write a great title by observing the headlines of other successful bloggers in your niche:
- Is it common for them to begin with a number?
- Count the number of parenthesis in their article titles.
- Are the first letters of all words capitalized?

If you’re still stumped on how to title a new article, conduct a Google search for the target keyword phrase you’re pursuing and get inspiration for how other titles are written—be careful not to duplicate other bloggers outright. Still, it will put you on the right path.

Continuing with our previous example, I’m attempting to rank the article “20 Best Blog Post Ideas” for keyword phrases such as “best blog post ideas,” thus, that’s what I’ve picked as my post URL… /best-blog-post-ideas.
Here are some additional URL writing tips:
- Remember to divide each word in a new post URL with a dash (for easier readability)
- Keep it brief (no more than 3 to 5 words) (less is better)
- Avoid utilizing numbers unless there is a solid reason to do so.
- Always include your target keyword phrase.
Creating an enticing introduction for your new blog post
You just have one or two sentences to persuade readers that your new post is worthwhile. Here’s a sample blog post introduction for our hiking example that I created in less than two minutes:

Another approach is to begin with your conclusion, which may sound counterintuitive. These days, people are tired of wasting their time on clickbait blog posts that lead nowhere.

In the end, it’s up to you to decide what “looks nice,” based on what you believe your (future) readers will connect with the most. But one of the essential lessons I’ve learned from launching my own site is that design is extremely crucial.

1. Make your blog content easy to read.
It is not necessary to use a large number of colors, fonts, and images in design. It all comes down to making your reader’s experience as enjoyable as feasible. Negative space is essential for the legibility and readability of your site, so don’t start by cramming design elements everywhere. Look for methods to improve the flow of things (a good WordPress theme should do this for you).
Next, ensure that your font size is sufficient (you should choose 16pt or greater). Line length should also be considered. To keep readers moving through the post, most designers recommend a sentence length of 50–85 characters for your blog. 2. Always include a relevant featured image at the top of your blog piece.
Our brain retains information in two ways: verbally and visually. If you combine the two at the head of your article with an eye-catching graphic, visitors are more likely to remember your blog.
Don’t be concerned with custom-designed photos at first.
Consider the main image from this guide (at the top of this post). I’m building a closer connection with my reader by placing a relevant image at the top of the post (and superimposing the title on it).
3. Use subheadings frequently to split up your material.
A large wall of content might be intimidating and drive readers to abandon your blog. I propose placing a heading or sub-header every 300-500 words. As I’ve done throughout this essay, I also attempt to include visuals surrounding each header in my blogs to break up the text flow.
4. Use style to highlight important elements of your content.
A well-designed blog will lead your reader through your subject. One of the simplest methods to accomplish this is to highlight significant points with bold or italics, as I regularly do in this tutorial. You can’t state everything in your piece is critical, so use it carefully.
5. Make certain that everyone knows where they are.
To establish a lasting connection with your visitors and make them feel at ease, include a brief paragraph about yourself in your blog’s sidebar or footer.

Making your first blog post live by hitting the publish button
A blog post of at least 1,000 words is a good sign that you’re ready to go public.
The easiest way to rank well in organic search is to double-check the SEO advice and optimize your blog article accordingly.
After fine-tuning your SEO settings, select which “Category” this new post will fall under and check the box. Then you’re ready to hit the publish button!
And then, whoosh! It’s that simple if you let it be.🎉
Like me, if you value good design, you may take one more step before publishing your first blog article.
According to studies, blog posts containing photographs receive 94% more views than those without. Regarding social media posts, tweets with photos receive 150 percent more retweets than those without, while Facebook posts with images receive 2.3X more engagement.
Adding a few aesthetic features can practically double the number of views and shares a blog article receives.
Free photo resources for blogs
Beautiful graphics and designs are one of the simplest ways to add visual flair to your blog entries. Thankfully, there are now a lot of high-quality sites that offer fantastic photography that is absolutely free to use for your blog—my personal favorite is Unsplash:

Unsplash is the best digital resource for 100% free, user-uploaded photos for your site. Their team curates every image that appears to ensure that it is of high quality.
Using their free blog photographs eliminates the need to give attribution to the photographer, making it the most convenient option. This is the best and easiest way to build your site faster.
Creating a blog content strategy is a bonus.
With the past several years, I’ve had the privilege of learning the importance of a well-rounded blog strategy, as well as a content marketing plan. I’ve successfully applied those lessons to my own blog, making numerous changes and additions along the way.
What exactly is a content strategy for a blog?
A blog content strategy is basically an action plan for developing your blog and attracting new visitors (from the right sources).
- If you know your blog niche and your why…

Then developing a blog content plan is as simple as addressing your readers’ most urgent issues.

- Define your blog goals: Why are you beginning a blog? What do you hope to accomplish with your blog content? This purpose may vary as your blog grows, but it’s crucial to know it from the beginning.
- Learn about your blog readers (and where they hang out): Your blog’s success will be determined by your readers. To write for them, you must first understand them, which is why it helps to write for yourself as well. It’s a good idea to research the audience for whom you’re writing. Consider your target audience’s demographics and psychographics.
Demographics are the main characteristics of your readers (such as age, gender, location, and job title). In contrast, psychographics are more intangible characteristics such as values, interests, attitudes, and belief systems. After you’ve written down these characteristics, you can begin to create an audience persona—a fictionalized version of your ideal reader.
- Decide on your blog’s primary content pillars: When determining what to write about, it’s helpful to have a few guiding categories to which you’ll refer. These are what I refer to as content pillars since they serve as the framework for the remainder of your blog.For example, if you’re making a personal finance blog, your pillars could be personal finance tips, expert interviews, industry news, debt repayment, and so on. Hundreds of blog posts may be written about each of these pillars. They also all work together to demonstrate that you are a thought leader in your industry.
- Plan out the content you’ll create on your blog: It’s worthwhile to set aside some time soon after launching your blog to plan out your content pipeline for the coming weeks (possibly months). You never know when your very first blog post may go viral.In such scenario, you should have a game plan in place to engage any new readers who come your way immediately. For beginning, one or two blog postings under each of your key content pillars should sufficient, ideally as evergreen material that will stand the test of time.

Publish your first blog entries, then what? Getting the word out about your blog’s content is now a priority.
Try to spend the majority of your time marketing rather than writing if you want to build a successful blog.
Here are a couple of the best ways to begin promoting your blog posts and attracting new readers. More ideas are available in my guide on how to increase traffic to your website, in which I go into better detail about the strategies I’ve employed in order to develop my blog from a few thousand readers per year to millions of visitors annually.
Using social media to market your blog
Social media is the prominent first stop when it comes to finding readers. There are a slew of popular social networking sites to choose from these days, including: Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn, Reddit, Instagram, Snapchat, and TikTok.
You should pick whichever platform best suits your specialty and audience’s interests. This is a crucial point to convey. Trying to promote your blog entries on every social media network is worthless.

- With Instagram, you can share high-quality photographs, quotations, and even whole stories with your followers!
- Twitter includes GIFs, news, and blog posts.
- YouTube is a video-sharing site (2nd largest search engine in the world).
- Employer-centric news feed and professional material on LinkedIn.
- Use Pinterest for visual materials like infographics and step-by-step picture tutorials.
- Commenting on subjects relevant to your business on Reddit.

To help you promote your blog and expand your readership, YouTube, the second-largest search engine in the world (after Google’s own company), is an excellent resource. You should start thinking about your YouTube video strategy as soon as you establish a blog to increase your subscribers and the number of people visiting your site.

Fortunately, there are a variety of tools available to assist you in keeping track of your social network postings. You should be able to promote all of your content in as little as an hour or two every week with the correct tool. My personal favorites are as follows:
Buffer: One of the simplest methods to plan social shares in advance for Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Pinterest. Using their browser plug-in, you may add unique content you come across to your social promotion queue swiftly and conveniently.
The Gain App: When you have a team working on your blog, Gain is a terrific way to keep tabs on who posts what and when. It’s a little more pricey, but their processes may save you a ton of time.
Hootsuite: If you want something a little more in-depth, Hootsuite is a sophisticated social sharing, scheduling, and monitoring application. It’s definitely a little too much for a novice blogger but is a great alternative to look out as you start to expand.
The essential takeaway here is that you’ll need to experiment to see which networks will work best for you.
You are not promised readers just because you created a blog. Here’s how to get people to come to your website.
Guest posting on other relevant blogs and websites such as Medium, Quora, and LinkedIn
One of the best parts of beginning a blog is that you’ll be joining a community of other bloggers that enjoy assisting one another. The greatest method to connect with an already established audience is to guest blog on other comparable sites.
Over the last decade, I’ve written hundreds of guest posts, and it’s been the single most effective strategy for promoting my blog content.

In the absence of a large-scale guest blogging campaign, consider reposting your work on Medium. If you want to reach a wider audience, you might submit your piece to a well-known Medium publication in your field.
There’s also Quora—a question and answer site that allows anyone to reply to users’ inquiries. Search for related subjects in your area and then answer questions you’ve previously written about on your blog (like this Quora answer I provided on acquiring blog traffic garnered thousands of views).
The last place you may want to submit your blog entries if they’re more business-oriented is on LinkedIn, where your target audience spends a lot of their time.
The main element here is to hunt out places where your audience is—and be present there, whether that’s other blogs, forums, or social platforms.
Blogger forums and message boards
Often, simply throwing your ideas into the social media void is ineffective.
Instead, if you discover the proper ones, participating in focused forums and communities can provide a much better return on your effort. Look through related Facebook groups to see if there are any active communities.

Look for a topic-related group to join on platforms like Facebook and LinkedIn where your audience already exists. You can also look for community-run sites by typing in phrases like “your specialty + forum” or “your niche + online groups” into Google.
If your search doesn’t yield any Facebook Groups with a reasonable amount of members (5,000+), you have additional possibilities. Look for more generic groups on Facebook, LinkedIn, Reddit, or separate forum websites related to your niche.
Remember that message boards and forums aren’t just locations to put links to your blog entries. You must first provide value before asking for anything in return. Begin by establishing relationships and connecting with individuals in the area.
Using an e-mail newsletter to increase the size of your blog’s audience
Because every skill may be monetized, the list could go on and on. The most efficient approach to keep existing readers involved with your work is to send out an e-mail newsletter, and it’s one of the first things you should do.
Building your e-mail list can also be a breeze. Include a sign-up form in your posts and on the critical pages of your website. I recommend beginning with any free website that lets you store your e-mail list.

I send an update to my community whenever I publish a new blog post, have a resource to share, or when new podcast episodes go live—and this now ensures that my content is seen by thousands of people right away.
E-mail marketing has been by far the most critical driver of development and money for my site, and it’s something I can’t recommend highly enough among all the blog marketing tactics you can do.
Other methods for increasing visitors to your blog
Aside from social network promotion, guest posts, forums, and e-mail, here are a few different strategies I’ve utilized to fast build my blog following.

The best way to learn about your field is to interview individuals who are well-known in it. Your blog readers want to know more about the folks you’re interviewing, so it’s a win-win situation. As with The Side Hustle Project, you may utilize these interviews for blog pieces or even podcasts.
Get to know other bloggers in your field by networking with them (and mentioning their blogs in your posts). You may achieve this by mentioning their material in your own writing. Linking to relevant blog pieces and then writing the author to say, “Hey! I’d want to connect with you.” The last piece I wrote included a brief mention of you. The author would much appreciate it if you would spread the word. But if not, I’ll be pleased to continue sharing your stories.” Real outcomes may be achieved in a short period of time.
Simple as it may sound, informing those close to you what you’re up to may have a significant impact on your momentum. In the beginning, you may just have a few people reading your blog, but you should answer to all of them and comment on other blogs as well.
Learn from other great bloggers: If you don’t feel ready to interact with other bloggers in your field, at least attempt to learn from what they’re doing—like what can be found in my epic collection of the finest blogging tips. You can learn a lot from individuals who are excellent at what you’re doing if you pay attention to what they do well and how they do it.
Remember that the only thing in the way of your blog’s growth is you. It will require some ingenuity and a willingness to experiment, but the effort will be well worth it. I’ve had to re-do it myself numerous times over the years and I’m still learning today.

Lastly, Profit from your blog!
There’s a reason why the section on making revenue from your blog is after our tutorial. You can’t expect to generate cash immediately unless you already have a large following somewhere—monetization should not be your primary emphasis but rather something to strive for.
Even then, it’s good to have an idea of which ways you’d like to generate cash blogging as you head into this new adventure. While your readership is still growing, some of these monetization strategies will be easier to implement than others.
1. Freelance work (Selling Your Services)
If you want to start earning revenue from your blog as soon as possible, selling your services (via blogging jobs, freelance writing gigs, or otherwise selling your expertise as a service) is by far the most straightforward option.
All you genuinely need to acquire a freelancing customer is a strong enough pitch, where opting to build a blog (first) will help immensely. Build out your important sections (About, Contact, Hire Me) and show off at least a couple of instances of the type of work that you’ll soon be pitching freelancing clients.
Don’t let that stop you if you don’t yet have those work samples. Create sample articles, designs, or other deliverables and host them on your own blog as if they were a paid project.
To be ready to sell to potential consumers, you need to be able to provide a talent as a service. That ability maybe something like…
- Writing (one of the essential blogging skills to master)
- Making progress (check out these WordPress developer job sites)
- Public relations
- Social media administration
- Help from a distance
- Paid advertising campaigns or SEO
- Project management or business strategy
- It could go on and on since any expertise can be sold.
2. Programs for Affiliates
In the few years since I began this blog, affiliate income has steadily grown to become the largest source of revenue for my company. Because affiliate income is so passive once you’ve done the (complex) work of finding a sustainable traffic source for your content, I’ve built my blog to generate affiliate income.
In what ways do affiliate marketing programs work?
What you need to know about affiliate programs: The firm for which you are an associate provides you with a unique tracking URL. As a last step, you’ll include that link in your blog articles, and emails to your subscribers, and wherever else you can think of. Tracking links may earn you a fee or a share of a transaction when someone clicks on them and completes a purchase, signup, or other transaction. Referring new consumers to your affiliate partners earns you money. An excellent illustration of this is my collection of Bluehost user reviews.
The majority of the most well-known brands offer affiliate programs. Consider Amazon, all the way down to significant players in specific areas such as online education, where brands such as CreativeLive and Udemy provide lucrative programs.
Once you acquire a small readership, you can go out and broker a more lucrative affiliate contract with companies that have relevant products you wish to advertise to your audience.
3. Sponsored Blog Posts
Unless you already have a sizable readership on your blog (or social networks), it will take some time to build your readership to the point where the sponsored content is a realistic monetization option.
What is sponsored blog content?
The most common kind of blog sponsorship is when a brand, corporation, or person pays you a fee to have their content (or offer) appear on your site.
How much traffic do you need to attract blog sponsors?
If you’re writing in a niche where your followers are highly engaged, you may anticipate sponsors to want your monthly readership to be at least 5,000. (or more). Getting to that point might be a long and difficult process.
The easiest method to do sponsored material without alienating your audience is to weave it into your usual publishing style.
4. Courses Available Online
Creating a course that people can pay for to access your best advice (like my blogging tips), strategies, tactics, and tutorials is relatively simple when you have a skill (or experience) that others are interested in learning.
This allows them to move through the learning process much more quickly than they would otherwise. A course is another great revenue stream when you get decent following of readers monthly.
What’s great about using a course to monetize your blog (or, as I’ve done with selling blogging books) is that you don’t need a large audience to profit from digital courses. If you decide to write an e-book and sell it to your target audience as a digital product, the same is true.

Ask questions, provide freebies and share tips to persuade people to join your email list or personally reach out and engage with you after you have a following on your site.
Take a look at their most pressing concerns (as related to the broader topics covered on your blog). Determine how your talents, expertise, and experience may uniquely serve them. For those readers who need immediate assistance, sell them on pre-ordering your course in a highly customized manner (either by email or phone, preferably) while you work on the course itself.
Asking individuals to part with their hard-earned cash will reveal whether or not you’ve succeeded in meeting their needs. Your course material will benefit from the support of real-time test participants. Using my concept validation approach, concentrate on pre-selling a course to a small group of early adopters.
5. Advertisements on traditional blogs (Ad Networks)
What are the best ad networks to join for bloggers?
Mediavine, Monumetric, Google AdSense, and Propeller Ads are some of the top ad networks for blogs to apply to. Dedicated ad networks may also provide more significant payments than the competitors in your industry, depending on the topic of your site.
Traditional CPC or CPM advertising isn’t very profitable (at least as a viable source of substantial blog income) until you have more than 1 million monthly readers.
Hence, it’s not a good monetization channel to focus on in the short term. However, when you first develop a blog, it can be one of the simplest ways to profit from your traffic with little extra effort.
6. Podcast Sponsorships
Another excellent approach to monetizing your blog is creating a (basic) podcast for your viewers. You can utilize your traffic and early listener figures to book sponsorships from brands that want to target your type of readers & listeners.
To really sweeten the deal, combine podcast ad placement offers with sponsored blog entries on your site. And I understand that establishing a podcast while you’re still learning to blog sounds like a detour, but bear in mind that a podcast may be as basic as informal talks with other bloggers in your sector.
How to Profit from Podcast Sponsorships
It’s best to record a few episodes and debut your program without attempting to get a sponsor in advance if you’re just getting your show off the ground. Those that watch and like your program are more likely to subscribe and remain loyal. Try presenting yourself as a guest on other podcasts in your area to get greater exposure for your own.
7. Physical Products (eCommerce) and Software Tools
Another wonderful option to monetize your blog audience is to sell real things or software tools to individuals in your community. Even more so if you plan to open a digital shop selling things that are relevant to your readers’ needs (with the correct eCommerce website builders).
To put it simply, this all boils down to making your blog readers’ lives easier. If you need some more encouragement, consider that 75 percent of internet customers claim they utilize social media as a component of their shopping process.
